My name is Rachel and I am The DIY Lady.
I was born and raised in London and Kent. My father is a cabinet maker and carpenter by trade and as a little girl I loved to watch him create beautiful things for our house.
Having lived in Spain for many years, in 2020, during the pandemic, I decided to return to the UK and live with my partner. She had dreams about opening a Bed and Breakfast hotel but her 7 bedroomed Victorian house needed a huge renovation, and thus began my journey into the world of DIY. As a novice, I only did small projects in the beginning but found that not only did I enjoy it but I was able to achieve a pretty good standard of workmanship.
As time went on and my passion for DIY and confidence grew, I undertook took on more and more complicated projects, got braver with the designs and my standard of workmanship and attention to detail continued to grow. At the start of 2024 the house underwent a major rebuild upstairs to create 3 ensuite bathrooms. I designed the new layout and assisted the builder with most of the carpentry jobs, making new skirting and architraves, laying new laminate floors etc. and I was told at that time that my workmanship skills were good enough to go into business if I wanted to.
Unfortunately, this had to be put on hold as just as the rebuild was being completed and I was seriously thinking about starting my own business, I became unwell. Much to my shock and horror I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Following 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy and radiotherapy I was told that I was in remission. But the fightback to good health was only just starting.
9 months after my treatment finished I was offered a couple of small DIY jobs by some friends and that re-ignited my love for all things DIY. So here I am in 2025 starting my own DIY business. At the time of writing this I already have 3 jobs lined up and I hope, over time, many more will follow.
I believe that DIY is not just about saving money or getting a project done quickly. It's about the satisfaction of transforming the spaces in which we live. Our homes are our sanctuary from the rigors of everyday life and it's important for them to not only look good but for them to function well as well. My job is to bring your ideas to life. No job is too small.
From painting and decorating to replacing old woodwork fittings such as skirting, architraves, and window sills, installing laminate floors, coving and dado rails, I can bring your ideas to life. I am also able to construct flat-packed furniture, put up shelves, curtain poles and put TV's on the wall to complete the room. If you don't have the budget for new furniture I can repaint existing furniture to match your new space.
